The Pilot
Zown signed on to help the City of Detroit revamp their carryout zone program. In order to help restaurants during the COVID-19 indoor dining restrictions, the City of Detroit was offering dedicated carryout zones with signage. Zown joined the effort to enable restaurants to provide input into where their carryout zones would be, as previously they were assigned by the city with no consideration from the restaurant managers.
The Problem
Zown needed a re-design of their onboarding process before an important presentation to stakeholders. The previous onboarding process suffered from several usability issues, including an unintuitive flow, lack of system feedback, and non-mobile-compatible design.
Design
How might we streamline interface to remove extraneous information and opportunities for error? Could we immediately orient the user to how long they could expect the experience to take, and create a framework for them to receive updates and further interface with the system in the future?
Old Flow
New Flow
The Outcome
Users found the redesigned onboarding process “straightforward,” “user-friendly” and “self-explanatory,” and were able to complete the test scenario successfully. Stakeholders in the company were pleased with the redesign and the addition of the static dashboard, which left the door open for future development of restaurant profiles with Zown.
